[...] How Facebook is Adding an Identity Layer to the Internet | Social Hacking: “What users may not realize is how much data they’re already sharing. This new style of Facebook Connect actually mirrors the behavior of Facebook itself. When you visit a Facebook application for the first time, it automatically knows who you are and can access your public data. When you then click “Allow” to authorize the app, you give it access to all of your private data. Currently, an external web site knows nothing about you until you click “Connect.” If you do click, it has the same access to your private data as an authorized application.
Excellent article. I can see this five, ten years down the line as very plausible, where Facebook will become a default ID for many websites.

Ever since Facebook connect came out I have wanted to segregate my Facebook account from any other surfing, but since I did not feel like running two browsers I never got around to it. But this pushed me over the edge. Since even though I NEVER do the connect on sites I always hated seeing my real name and the thought of automatically giving out info sickens me. This well also help with another problem I have with a few times being tricked into clicking on a Facebook app link from external sites or Google and knowing they get basic info even if I don't allow. (Which some still end up in my recently used apps auth settings section even though I NEVER click allow)
