What’s in a Name?

I received an interesting e-mail from Facebook the other day:

Trademark violation in your application “Full SuperPoke”

During an automated check, our system found that your application name contains a variation on the disallowed term “poke.” Application names may not contain Facebook trademarks without the express prior written permission of Facebook.

Sure enough, the Facebook TOS includes this line:

You will not use our copyrights or trademarks (including Facebook, the Facebook and F Logos, FB, Face, Poke, Wall and 32665) without our written permission.

I’m guessing that means Slide has written permission to use “poke” for SuperPoke.  Although, they recently renamed FunWall to FunSpace, and RockYou changed Super Wall to RockYou Live.  Perhaps SuperPoke will be getting a name change soon.
